For almost 140 years the Swain family farmed the land that is Wah-Tut-Ca. In 1779 Jacob Swain married Mehitable Blake and settled on Blakes Hill. Their farm house was located next to the camp gate. The Swains lived on this land until 1917. The family cemetery hold the remains of 5 generations of Swains.

For the last several years the Biosphere Team has been investigating an area of Wah-Tut-Ca that has 17th and 18th Century artifacts from the farm.
